Say What? Improv Workshops? - You Said What?

  • DW2, Jack Mann Auditorium 53 Solway Avenue Christchurch, Canterbury, 8041 New Zealand (map)

Have you ever been lost for words when you watch someone improvising? Have you been dumbfounded when someone has talked about blocking, barbecue scenes, magic pockets or the curve of absurdity? Do you want to make people laugh or cry (or at least stop twiddling their thumbs) when you perform? Then this series of workshops is for you!

On each Monday night of the university lecture break DramaSoc's very own improv group, Say What, is running a series of workshops in DW2 designed to help you understand the lingo of improv and to help you grow as an improviser. It's fun, educational, and best of all it's free!

April 2nd: You Said What?

In the first workshop we will be looking at how to and how not to receive and use offers from your fellow performers. It will help you keep scenes moving and give you confidence to tell a story.

Improv is all about collaboration between scene partners, and a large part of that is giving and receiving offers. We will practice the skill of presenting your ideas to the scene and then accepting the ideas of your fellow performers in ways that develop the scene. We will also discuss ask-fors; how to take good ask-fors and then how to use them in satisfying ways. This workshop will be helpful particularly for new improvisers, giving you valuable core skills helpful in every improv situation.
